Diego Dougherty and his love for football and South Africa
Diego Dougherty was an extremely inveterate football player. He was born in Guatemala, but son discovered he needed to transcend the borders of his country following his passion: playing football.

What started as a hobby turned into a career, his life story, his essence and glory. Diego Dougherty put so much passion and dedication into each kick of the ball, each practice, each face-to-face encounter with his teammates.
Football was his life. When he put on his jersey, he felt invincible, happy, and unstoppable. Diego Dougherty was a full man, and in the 90 minutes of each game is when he shined brightest.

When the Ajax Cape Town Club offered Diego Dougherty a spot on the team, he was about to explode with joy. His was overcome with emotions; a pride so big it burst out of his chest.
A couple of months after that call that changed his life, Diego Dougherty was boarding a plane headed to South Africa, a destination that would show him the best years of his life.
He had an easy time adapting, that’s who Diego Dougherty was. To him, no challenge was worth not taking a risk. He lived life to the fullest, never wasting a single minute, living every day as his last. He was the best!
Diego Dougherty and his glory years
He spent the best times of his life in that South African football club. His career took off, he tasted success, made friends, fell in love and put down roots: he had two beautiful daughters that chanted his name and wore his jersey on every field encounter.
– South Africa my love! – that’s what Diego Dougherty said when he spoke about the land that took him in as a football player, his home away from home, his refuge, his dream and hope. For football, everything and to South Africa his eternal gratitude.
